Summary

The Preconstruction Engineer’s role is to assist the Estimator, Project Manager, and other operations staff members with preconstruction pursuits from lump-sum hard bids to preliminary CM at Risk budgets. The Pre-Construction Project Engineer will primarily be responsible for setting up and maintain preconstruction project records, subcontractor solicitations, scope estimating and analyzing assigned projects.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for setting up the estimate, estimate binder / digital file, invited subcontractors list, and solicitation invitation for preconstruction pursuits
  • Identify and solicit the “right” subcontractors for various preconstruction pursuits and insure adequate subcontractor coverage in each scope of work.
  • Accumulate the necessary information to qualify subcontractors, through solicitation of potential suitors, to ensure the proper fit for preconstruction pursuits.
  • Communicate “persistently” with subcontractors regarding involvement / interest in preconstruction pursuits and diligently follow up to review project scope, pricing prior to bid day, and ensure submission of required administrative documents occurs in a timely manner.
  • Review design documents and complete an accurate quantity take-off for assigned scopes of work
  • Review design documents and identify scope items with cost implications
  • Coordinate with other team members to ensure that “fringe” scopes of work are identified and properly included in estimates
  • Assist with conceptual estimating of preliminary preconstruction pursuits
  • Assist marketing & business development with the creation and submission of project proposals

 

Job Specifications

  • 3 years minimum experience in preconstruction or estimating (preferred but not required)
  • Computer knowledge and efficiency, including Microsoft Office products
  • Broad understanding of industry
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong math/analytical skills
  • Ability to meet critical deadlines

  • Exceptional communication skills

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Person in this position needs to be able to move about a job site location and inside the office.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Must be able to communicate efficiently and effectively with other employees.
  • Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Exposed to outdoor weather conditions
